Lawrence, Kansas
In March 2018 Paul Harfleet visited the USA, his destination was the Spencer Museum of Art in Lawrence, Kansas to contribute to programming that supported a botanical themed exhibition; Big Botany: Conversations with the Plant World curated by Stephen Goddard. Harfleet’s visit included a pansy giveaway on the Kansas University campus to spread the message of his project, the premiere of his short documentary Pansies, and a reading and signing of his children’s book Pansy Boy. Harfleet planted pansies at sites of homophobia throughout Lawrence and led a planting tour across the KU campus. Before Kansas he visited Washington D.C. to plant more pansies. The short film above made by Paul Harfleet captures this trip to Lawrence, Kansas and Washington D.C., made with the support of the Spencer Museum of Art. As shown in the video above, this PDF goes into the detail of the work made by the students in response to Paul Harfleet visiting Lawrence High School.
