Washington DC

For The Fallen
The nine pansies below mark ten murders that were motivated by homophobia and transphobia that occurred in Washington DC, these unsolved murders were covered in an article in Washington Blade in January 2018 and is referenced in the short film below. Rather than list the horrific details in the image, each planting is named in honour of the people that were fatally attacked, the film below does go into the detail of each case.

The visit to Washington DC was initiated by Justin Kondrat, as explained in the video above, Justin is a horticulturalist based in DC and reached out to Paul to invite him to visit the capital to plant pansies, Justin and Paul planted most of these pansies together. The trip was supported by Spencer Museum of Art as the artist went to Washington DC en route to Lawrence, Kansas, where he was included in various events that were part of an exhibition called Big Botany.
